About

I've always been more interested in what's actually happening than what people believe is happening. Those two things are rarely the same and the gap between them is almost always where the most consequential problems live.

That instinct is what I do for a living.

I work with companies at inflection points - when leadership senses something is off but can't see it clearly from inside the building. Sometimes that's a product underperforming. Sometimes it's a customer experience eroding brand equity faster than the revenue numbers reveal. Sometimes it's a program or portfolio that needs someone who can see the whole system and find where it's actually breaking down.

Finding it requires someone willing to look from the outside in. To observe directly rather than trust the dashboard. To trace causes rather than manage symptoms.

Thirty years of it - across product development, enterprise program leadership, field failure recovery, brand turnarounds, and customer experience intelligence. Early in my career I contributed to an $85M brand turnaround at Schwinn, led a $10M+ field failure recovery at Quantum, and built a technology consultancy serving clients across aerospace, defense, and consumer electronics. For the past thirteen years I've run Pure3d — working with companies including Jackson Kayak, Klean Kanteen, and Werner Paddles at exactly those kinds of moments.

First and last I'm an engineer. Which means that I hunt for causes, not confirmations.

I'm based in Bozeman, Montana — which tells you something about how I think. Out here, the gap between what you believe about the terrain and what the terrain actually is tends to sort itself out quickly. I find that clarifying. It's also, not coincidentally, exactly what I do for the companies I work with — clarify.
